IDC storage study highlights massive growth. What’s a zettabyte?

The latest report from IDC offers some mind-blowing analysis and conclusions about the continued rate of growth in data creation and replication. Check out this number…

1,800,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

That’ show many bytes of data will be created or replicated in 2011. That is 1.8 zettabytes.

The good folks at Storage Newsletter offered their take on the highlights and the study’s sponsor (EMC) has pages dedicated to the Digital Universe program and an abstract of the study itself.

What do you think?

Also, thanks for tweeting our post about Lady Gaga and cloud storage.
